WEDNESDAYS’ CULTURAL CIRCLE (WCC), PERFORMANCE OF CHOIR „BRAĆA BARUH“

hor bbAs a part of our Wednesday Culture Club (WCC) concert of the choir “Braća Baruh” will be held on 10th of February at 18h on the 4th floor in the gala “red” auditorium. We invite all our in and outpatients, as well as employees of the Institute to come and enjoy the choir performance.

Choir „Braća Baruh“from Belgrade was founded in 1879. as the Serbian-Jewish Singing Society, with the aim to cherish and keeps cultural and artistic heritage and tradition of the Jewish people living in this area of Europe. It changed its name in 1952 to the present one in memory of three brothers from the famous revolutionary Jewish family-Baruh. Baruh brothers were members of the resistance who were killed in pogroms of the Nazi regime during World War II. From the founding to the present day, the choir has had numerous concerts and participated in many competitions and festivals both in former Yugoslavia and abroad (Israel, USA, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Spain, the United Britain and others). From the most important choir performances, stands out concert at Carnegie Hall in New York in 1978, as well as hosting the choir on several occasions at the most important Jewish festival of choirs “Zimriya” in Jerusalem. Choir “Braća Baruh” was twice awarded by the office of President of the State, for its contribution to cultural promotion of the country, and in the past two years won several awards at important international musical competitions.

STEFAN ZEKIĆ since year 2006. was appointed to the chief conductor of the renowned mixed choir “Braća Baruh”.He graduated from the Faculty of Music and Art in Belgrade, Department of Conducting and the Department of solo singing. He attended seminars and master classes with renowned European conductors in Austria, Germany, the UK and Belgium. He is also engaged in the National Theatre in Belgrade, where he participated in the preparation of opera premieres and collaborates with renowned director ‘names. He has received numerous awards and special honors of the State of Israel to achieve outstanding success in the field of Jewish choral music.

Outpatients are required to leave their health card at the counter and to specify that they are going to the Wednesday Culture Club.
